Test Fire
The following is a test fire which was done in one of our stoves located at 405 Langille's Lake Rd.,
Blockhouse, Nova Scotia - Canada.
The specifications where as follows:
Wood Type: Maple
Kindling Type: Maple
Kindling Starter: Newsprint
Wood Amount: 20 kg
Starting Room Temperature: 22°C
Wood Moisture Content: 14.5 %
Fire Box Temperature before Test fire: 30°C
Date of Test Fire: February 6th 2005
Observations & Conclusions:
1. Burning Time:
Burning time counts from the start of the fire until no flames are visible anymore. The calculated burning time was 68 minutes for 20 kg of firewood. The burning time of the test fire was 70 minutes.
2. Temperatures:
The aim in wood combustion is to reach flame temperatures above 375°C as fast as possible. The flame temperature of the test fire was 730°C after 10 minutes. A really satisfying result.
3. Combustion Air:
The calculated air surplus was 2. Exact burning time and high temperatures after a short time indicate that the combustion air intake was sufficient.
4. Smoke:
Smoke was visible only in the start phase of the test fire. The color indicates that it was mostly condensing vapor. The light smoke after 20 minutes burning time was caused by the collapse of the burning firewood in the firebox.
